Cable TV Has Problems, Dish Network Offers Solutions

If you've been shopping around for a Satellite TV service provider, you're probably somewhat confused about whether you should go with your local cable TV company or a satellite TV provider like Dish Network. This is understandable because the differences between the two services aren't always clear. Fortunately, once you get some facts about each service, the decision is easy. For example, if you happen to live out in the country, then the decision has probably been made for you. After all, cables very rarely extend beyond the borders of medium sized towns, and if you happen to live outside of the cable TV company's service area, then you'll have no choice but to get a satellite TV provider like Dish Network. That's because Dish Network's satellite signals can be received pretty much anywhere.

If you live within the service area of a cable TV company, then your choice may be more complicated. Nonetheless, Dish Network will probably still be the service of choice for you for many reasons. The most obvious way in which Dish Network is superior to the average cable TV company is in the number of channels that it offers. While the average cable TV company only offers a maximum of about one hundred channels, Dish Network is just getting warmed up at one hundred channels. In fact, most of Dish Network's programming packages have over one hundred channels and several have well over two hundred channels.

One thing that really adds to your options from Dish Network is its ability to add channels onto your programming package in order to give you exactly what you want. For example, if you have a passion for a certain foreign language there's an excellent chance that it will be included among the selection of nineteen different languages that Dish Network provides programming in. You can get this programming for a lot of these languages either in the form of a miniature programming package that you can subscribe to alone or have added onto an existing programming package, or you can get individual channels in different languages added onto an existing programming package.

Dish Network's additional channels aren't limited to foreign language programming. For example, you'll be able to add HDTV channels to most of Dish Network's programming packages in the form of an add on package consisting of thirty one high definition channels. This will provide you with lots of programming to watch in your home theater. You'll also be able add comprehensive sports coverage to your programming package in the form of seasonal sports subscriptions.

One of your hesitations about subscribing to Dish Network versus a cable TV service may have to do with the fact that you need a satellite dish in order to pick up satellite TV programming. This is understandable because satellite TV still has a bad reputation from the fact that early satellite TV technology required the use of huge satellite dishes that dominated people's yards and caused their neighbors to hate them. Those times have passed though and now Dish Network's satellite dishes measure only a couple of feet across. That's small enough to conceal in a subtle place on just about anybody's property, and even if it is still visible, you can be sure that these modern satellite dishes will be much better accepted than the behemoths of the past.

With all of the advantages that Dish Network has over cable TV, it's really amazing that so many people still subscribe to cable.

Dish Network Receivers Have Been Updated To Offer Newest Technologies

A Dish Network receiver is an exciting piece of equipment that is meant to improve your television viewing. When you watch television, you want to be able to get convenient and high quality access to all your shows, and the receiver is able to give you just that. Whether you are a sports fan, love reality TV, or wish the only channel available was PBS, the receivers will give you the features that you want and need to make your viewing easier.

Many people start out with the most basic receiver, the Dish 311, because it is convenient to use, offers most of the most useful features, and allows you access to all of your favorite shows. While the Dish 311 does not contain all of the frills of the more advanced receivers- such as a DVR or HDTV capabilities, it is quite impressive in its own right. For instance, though this model is a basic model, it has all of the most necessary features such as the electronic program guide, parental controls, on-screen caller ID, and even interactive television features. If you haven't had features like these before you will be excited to be able to use them because they make it easier to watch the programming you want and also give you more control over your television.

The Dish 322 is a step up from the Dish 311 because it contains a second tuner. Each receiver tuner has the capability of controlling one television. That means that this dual tuner model can control two separate televisions at the same time. If you are looking for satellite television on your main television and one other, this is a great way to reduce the amount of equipment you need. Aside from the second tuner, this receiver is a lot like the Dish 311.

The Dish Player DVR 625 is a lot different from the more basic models. This standard definition receiver offers users the ability to record programming using the electronic program guide. When you want to record a show, you find the listing in the guide and tell the DVR to record- much easier than spending minutes fumbling with a VCR or asking your friends to record your programming for you! The DVR even contains built in storage for your programming, which makes it even easier to record a whole lot of programming. When you are ready to watch what you have stored, you can use the organizational tools to find the correct program and start watching.

When you decide to upgrade to high definition television, the receiver choices become more advanced. For example, the basic HDTV receiver, the ViP211, contains all of the features of the standard definition models plus the ability to send satellite audio throughout your house and an Ethernet and USB 2.0 port. All of these features increase your options and make for a more advanced system.

The ViP622 DVR is even more advanced because it includes a Dishnetwork HDTV DVR. Just like the standard definition DVR, the HD version is meant to increase your viewing options. However, the HD version also has the ability to record in high definition, which is great for getting the same quality in your recordings as in the original.

All of Dish Network's receivers are meant to make your viewing better. Getting the correct one for your purposes just increases your enjoyment even more.

PocketDish A Great Complement To Dish Network Service

If you've been looking for a way to watch TV and movies while you travel or as a way to make more effective use of the downtime throughout your day, there's a good chance that you're daunted by all of the options available to you. In the past couple of decades the single option of a lousy portable hand held TV set has expanded and now laptop computers, portable DVD players, portable media devices, and even some mobile phones are all options for watching video on the go.

Among all of those different options, the portable media device is one of the most practical. This type of device doesn't have the bulk or expense of a laptop computer, but it does have a significantly longer battery life. Portable media devices also have substantial built in hard drives that make them able to carry a lot more video than the single DVD that a portable DVD player can hold. Portable media devices also have a much greater variety of programming and normally have substantially larger LCD screens than the typical mobile phone.

Even if you narrow your choices down to portable media devices, you still have a lot of different devices to choose from. Fortunately, if you have a subscription to Dish Network though, the choice becomes pretty easy. That's because there's a line of portable media devices designed especially for use with Dish Network's satellite TV service. These devices are called PocketDishes, and while other portable media devices are designed to download video from computers and the Internet, PocketDishes distinguish themselves by making it easy to download video directly from the hard drive of a Dish Network digital video recorder.

This is really an ingenious development for a number of reasons. Basically, Dish Network Providers figured that it had literally hundreds of channels of high quality video that could be watched on a portable device if there was a way for its subscribers to capture that video and transfer it to a portable device. The digital video recorder presented the perfect way to capture video off of the satellite signal in a form that could be downloaded to the PocketDish. That's because each TV show, movie, news cast, or sporting event that's recorded by a digital video recorder is stored in its one MPEG-2 video file on the hard drive of the digital video recorder. Those files are easy to then download to the hard drive of a PocketDish one by one.

The more advanced models in the PocketDish line up- the AV500E and the AV700E- also have digital video recording capabilities built in. That means that they can record shows directly off of a Dish Network satellite receiver, thereby eliminating the need for a receiver with a digital video recorder built in. Even better, when these recordings are made, the video is stored in the MPEG-4 format which takes up only a quarter of the space of the same amount of video in MPEG-2 format. That brings the hard drive capacity of these units up to one hundred and twenty and one hundred and sixty hours of video respectively!

There are obviously a lot of advantages for the Dish Network Programming subscriber who chooses to get a PocketDish.

HDTV From Dish Network Completes Your Home Theater System

If you've been lusting for a home theater system, there's never been a better time than the present to go ahead and install one in your home. That's because thanks to HDTV technology, home theater systems are more affordable now than they've ever been before. In fact the High Definition Television format was designed specifically to allow movie enthusiasts to enjoy the big screen movie theater experience in the comfort of their own homes.

There are a bunch of different ways to enjoy a Satellite HDTV home theater system in your house and you need to make some choices as far as the best set up for your needs. For example, if your home theater will be in your basement, then a Plasma screen TV will probably be a good choice for you. On the other hand, if your home theater will be set up in a sunlit living room, then an LCD screen would be a much better choice. And if you want a really big screen (as in one that's measured in feet rather than inches) a DLP projector will be the display technology of choice.

You also have to make choices about where you get your programming. While an HDTV set will display normal TV programming and the contents of DVD's, you won't be doing your HDTV set justice unless you're using it to display actual High Definition Television programming which is characterized by a higher resolution picture than normal TV is cable of displaying. You could get that High Def programming from a new breed of DVD's that are specially designed for the HDTV format, but the players for them are expensive, there's a format war between the two incompatible disc formats, and even if the discs were safe buys, your viewing options would still be very limited.

The good news is that HDTV programming is available on channels that are provided by Dish Network. Dish Network currently offers thirty one national HDTV channels in a special package that can be added onto most of its other programming packages. This is an especially good choice for your high definition programming because at thirty one channels, Dish Network offers significantly more HDTV programming than any of its competitors.

Perhaps even more impressive than the amount of HDTV programming provided by Dish Network is the diversity of programming content that you can in the high def format through Dish Network. For example, those thirty one channels include some that are devoted to a variety of special interest and hobbies. For example, more and more video game systems are able to display graphics in HD resolutions, and you'll be able to keep up with the latest of such development through Game Play HD. The special sound properties of HDTV programming also lend themselves especially well to music and concerts, which is why there's Rave HD. You'll also be able to pick out all of the necessary details of antiques through Treasure HD.

Of course you'll also get the movies that were the whole point of getting a home theater system in the first place. These movies will be provided for you courtesy of Showtime HDTV, HBO HD, HDNet Movies, Universal HD, and Kung Fu HD. High Def channels from Dish Network will definitely put the finishing touches on your home theater system.

Dish Network Provides Everything That You Need For HDTV

There's little doubt that HDTV is a new type of entertainment technology that's truly here to stay. After all, no other type of TV technology can deliver the same high quality picture and sound that allow people to watch movies at home and have those movies look like the directors intended.

One major problem with high definition television though- or rather a problem with the way people use this wonderful new technology- is the fact that they don't give the TV the programming it needs in order to give them the best viewing experience it possibly can. It seems that while the American populace is enthralled by the idea of HDTV, those same people largely don't even know what exactly the technology is or how to best take advantage of it.

The fact is that high definition TV is a new TV format and the HDTV set is the instrument required to display it. High Definition Television is distinguished from the older standard definition TV format by the fact that it has a substantially higher resolution picture. In fact, a standard definition TV picture is composed of 480 horizontal lines of resolution that are each one pixel in width. By contrast, an HDTV picture can be made up of either 720 horizontal lines of resolution that are also each one pixel wide or an incredible 1080 lines of resolution! That means that the HDTV format packs a lot more detail into each frame of its programming than standard definition TV is capable of. That's also why HDTV programming can't be displayed on a normal TV set and standard definition TV programming can be displayed on an HDTV set. The fact that standard definition programming provides such a lower resolution picture also accounts for the fact that standard definition programming often looks grainy on an HDTV set- there are more pixels in the screen than the programming supplies information on what to do with them.

These differences not only require you to have an HDTV set to watch High Definition TV and HD programming, but they also mean that you need to have a high definition receiver to display that high def programming on the screen. Fortunately Dish Network- the same company that can supply you with more HDTV programming than any other service provider- will also provide you with a high definition TV receiver.

Right now Dish Network offers a choice of two models of HDTV satellite receivers. The basic model- the one that you'll get if you don't need anything extra- is the ViP211. The ViP211 is very much the equivalent among the Dish 311 among standard definition satellite TV receivers from Dish Network. That is, the ViP211 supplies you with the programming and the software needed to keep track of the programming without all of the bells and whistles that really add to your home entertainment center in ways that don't necessarily have anything to do with the programming itself.

The more advanced model, the ViP622 DVR, is the model that truly will add a whole new dimension to your home entertainment experience. That's because the ViP622 DVR comes with a built in digital video recorder that will allow you to record and watch all of the programs that you want to see, regardless of when they air or how chaotic your own schedule is.

Dish Network A Better Deal Than Cable

When Dish Network was founded back in the early nineteen nineties it was created as much to provide urbanites and suburbanites with an alternative to cable TV service as to provide rural people with any TV access at all. Now more than ever, it's definitely an alternative for many people who live in places where they have access to cable TV. This is largely because many neighborhoods and towns have become much more tolerant of the small satellite dishes that bring Dish Network service to people everywhere. After all, these smaller satellite dishes are a huge improvement over the gigantic satellite dishes of the past that would dominate lawns and create intolerable eyesores.

Yet despite the advantages that Dish Network has always had over the cable TV industry, the cable TV industry has persisted. And that persistence is largely due to the fact that it employs a propaganda campaign that invariably either makes cable sound a lot better than it is or makes Dish Network sound like it isn't as good of an alternative as it actually is. In reality though, Dish Network had a number of advantages over the cable TV industry and those advantages have only grown over the years.

One example of the advantage that Dish Network has over the cable TV industry is the number of channels that each can provide for its subscribers. For example, while there are a few cable TV companies here and there that can provide up to two hundred channels, the vast majority of cable TV providers only offer about one hundred channels at the most. Some offer more in the realm of eighty or ninety. Dish Network, on the other hand, offers several programming packages with well over two hundred channels and the majority of its mainstream programming packages have over one hundred channels. In fact, it's entirely possible to get a programming package form Dish Network with over three hundred channels!

One of the sources of all of these channels, and one of the things that makes Dish Network a lot more flexible than other TV service providers, is the vast reserve of optional channels that can be added onto any programming package. One example of this is the fact that Dish Network offers programming in nineteen different foreign languages- many of which come in programming packages made up of multiple channels in that language. That's quite an advantage over the one or two Spanish language channels offered by most cable TV companies.

Dish Network also allows you to add a lot more sports programming to your larger programming packages. For example, seasonal sports subscriptions can provide you with all of the coverage of your favorite sports or leagues that you want. That's because each seasonal sports subscription can provide you with all of the games in that sport over the course of the regular season of that league. You'll be able to order subscriptions like MLB Extra Innings, NBA League Pass, and NHL On The Ice among others.

All of these extra programming advantages combined with a price gap that continues to widen, makes Dish Network the better deal than cable TV by far.

Dish Network Pushes The Technology Of The Future

We may never be able to know exactly what the future will bring, but there are a few things that we can make guesses about when it comes to how we watch TV. For example, it's widely been asserted that HDTV will be the future of TV. While this will probably be true, and we probably will eventually see a total conversion over to the HDTV format, it definitely does not tell us the whole story. There are a number of other interesting technologies that are on the horizon that will provide us with a good deal of other options for watching TV. They may involve HDTV or they may not, but one thing that's becoming clearer and clearer is that we will have greater control over how we watch TV.

There are a number of advances that Dish Network has already made that allow us to do this. For example, video on demand technology is already available through Dish On Demand. Dish On Demand is essentially a pay per view service that has taken advantage of state of the art technology in order to combine the all of the advantages of video rentals with pay per view. Like traditional pay per view, you don't have to leave the comfort of your home in order to get a recent release movie to watch and you don't have to worry about the late fees associated with failing to return that movie to the store by the time it's due.

Like a video rental, you'll be able to watch your video from Dish On Demand as soon as you order it (which is actually better than renting a movie, because with a rental you have to wait until you get it home) and you'll also be able to watch that movie as many times as you want over the course of the twenty four hour period following when you ordered it. You can also pause the movie, as well as rewinding it and fast forwarding it while playing the movie. In other words, Dish TV Dish On Demand really is a lot like the best qualities of a video rental and pay per view, and video on demand technology makes it possible.

Digital video recording is a technology that's very well developed right now, but with the flexibility it provides it's something of a window as to how people will watch TV in the future. Dish Network supplies several different satellite receivers that have digital video recorders built into them. These digital video recorders will all allow you to record the movies, TV shows, and sporting events that you want to watch but may not have the time to watch when they're aired. When you do go back to watch those programs, you can even save time by fast forwarding through the commercials. Of course advertisers don't like this, but there's really nothing they can do that will stop you from doing it. Best of all, you can program the digital video recorder to record specific TV programs with an easy to use interface that makes the DVR much easier to use for this purpose than a VCR ever was. That, combined with the fact that the video is recorded onto a hard drive instead of a video cassette, makes digital video recorders an easy to use way to record the programming that you want to watch and then watch it when you want.

If you're anxious to experience the future of TV today, then Dish Network's features can provide that experience.

PocketDish Stands Out From The Pack

When you're shopping around for different consumer electronic devices, you're faced with a huge number of choices. This is probably more true for portable media devices than any other type of consumer electronic device. After all, the huge amount of money to be made from allowing people to watch TV shows, sporting events, movies, and amateur video material everywhere they go has tempted a lot of different companies to try to get a share of the market. The result of this is a huge number of different devices that are all of decent quality, but really aren't all that different from each other.

Amid all of this competition, the satellite TV provider, Dish Network, has thrown its own portable media device into the fray. This device is called the PocketDish and it's a lot like all of the other devices out there in a lot of the features that it has. After all, it has a color LCD screen, a built in hard drive for storing videos and other media, it can display digital photos, it can play digital music, and it can play video games that can be downloaded from Dishnetwork.

There are even three different models of the PocketDish to choose from. The AV402E is the smallest with a 2.2 inch LCD screen, the ability to record audio over a built in microphone, and a 20 gigabyte hard drive. The AV500E is the middle size model. The AV500E has a four inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a thirty gigabyte hard drive, and built in speakers. The AV700E is really just a bigger version of the AV500E with a seven inch LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 40 gigabyte hard drive.

The two larger models- the AV500E and the AV700E- also have a special extra feature in that they can both function as stand alone digital video recorders. This means that both of these units can record video in real time from other devices. The devices that can supply video for these two models include camcorders, cable boxes, computers, TV sets, digital video recorders, satellite tv receivers, VCR's, DVD players, and just about anything that plays video and has a compatible connection. Best of all, this video is recorded in the MPEG-4 video compression format which means that the AV500E can store 120 hours of video recorded this way and the AV700E can record up to 160 hours of video.

While digital video recording is a good way to get video, it's not really what the PocketDishes are primarily designed for. The PocketDishes are mostly designed to get video by downloading it form Dishnetwork digital video recorders. This is much more convenient than recording it from other devices because the DVR can record the video while you're out doing other things and then download it to the PocketDish over a USB 2.0 connection at a rate of approximately an hour of video for every 5 minutes of download time. This is also much more efficient than the process that other portable media devices use to download video from the Internet.

Dish Network Keeps HDTV Sets From Going To Waste

When it comes time to upgrade your home entertainment system, you might be tempted to go with a high definition television set. After all, HDTV sets are modern wonders of technology and they can go a long way toward making a home entertainment center into a home theater system.

All too often though high definition TV sets go to waste, or even worse are returned to the electronics store, because people don't know how to operate them. This isn't surprising given the fact that in the past you didn't need to know anything to operate a TV set. In truth though, the actually HDTV set is just one part of the whole high definition television experience. In addition to the HDTV set, which is really defined by the fact that it has a 16:9 aspect ratio and packs a lot more pixels into its screen, you need a sound system that can take advantage of the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound that's the standard sound format for HDTV. You also need programming that conforms to the standards of the HDTV format, and you need a special receiver to pull it all together.

The special receiver is necessary because normal TV receivers simply don't have the power to deal with the added demands that HDTV programming places on them. These demands are due primarily to the fact that HDTV has a much higher picture resolution than conventional TV. This alone can make it so that HDTV programming is anywhere between six and ten times as data intensive as standard definition TV. Of course, many television companies use advanced video compression technology in order to make the enormous amount of data involved in HDTV easier to transmit, but that just means that the receiver has to deal with a different type of video compression that it wouldn't ordinarily need to deal with. In fact, almost all regular standard definition TV programming is transmitted in the MPEG-2 video compression format, while HDTV is transmitted in MPEG-4 video compression format. While this is good for conserving bandwidth, it's definitely something else for the receiver to deal with.

Fortunately, you can get everything that you need in order to keep your HDTV set from going to waste in any sense of the word by subscribing to Dish Network. That's because Dish Network provides HDTV satellite receivers for everyone who subscribes to its special HDTV add on package. The HDTV satellite receivers from Dish Network are high quality pieces of equipment that will add to your TV experience in many different ways. They'll handle the MPEG-4 data compression format as well as the more common MPEG-2 format, and they can handle the standard definition TV resolution as well as the 720p and 1080i High Definition resolutions.

The more advanced of the two models available for HDTV use even comes with a built in digital video recorder that will make it so that you don't have to miss any of your favorite TV shows or sporting events in either TV format. In fact, this unit will record up to thirty hours of HD video on its hard drive, or a huge two hundred hours of standard definition video. Either way, HDTV receivers from Dish Network will provide you with the capabilities that you need in order to get the most out of your HDTV set.
